Many westerners asks this question, Is there any difference between word "Paramatma" and "Bagwan\God"? Well the answer is Yes, there is!! To understand this we have to understand what and to whom vedas call Paramatma. Parmatma according to vedas is actually Param Tatva i.e Super Element or Ultimate Element, here Tatva is a Sanskrit words which means an Element, and this Element is the source of all sub-atomic particles. According to vedas, whatever materialistic world you are experiencing is made up of virtual particles thus is virtual & does not exists at all, as we know, there are so many particles and antiparticles which all together makeup this universe , none of them are solid (Generally we use this term when we consider elements like zinc, copper etc) , initially physicists used to believe that all particles or atoms are solid but later in 1920's this was revealed that neither atoms nor any sub-atomic particles are solid i.e they appear to be solid but were not, So everything which we thought was real suddenly became VIRTUAL because everything was made of those virtual particles (vibrating energy strings), that means all elements are virtual and thus in reality does not exist at all, That also means humans, animals, birds, insects which are also made up of those virtual particles are also virtual and thus does not exist in reality. Vedas & Upanishads in Hinduism mentions this virtual reality as MAYA (MA => Something which appears as solid, dense & real, YA=> but is not) , this secret revelation by Vedas were initially rejected & not believed before 19th century by western physicists but were later respected & accepted with great shock & since then they started carrying deep analysis & researches on these Vedic literature's in Sanatan Dharma. According to Vedas or Chandogya Upanishad the source of all these vibrating virtual particles is one, and to that Vedas call it Param Tatva, and there is continuous vibrations of OM in that Tatva (Element), due to which Vedas also call it OM. It's actually because of this vibration (OM) creation has occurred. "Ekam vipraha bahudha vadanti" The truth is one and learned call Him by different names. "truth" here meas Braman i.e Om or Super Element or Paramatma, and it is this Tatva who has manifested itself in different forms here in this universe, i.e all the forms either living or non-living, tiniest or largest all are different forms of one Tatva (Element). On the other hand when we say GOD or Bagwan, we are talking about someone who is Generator, Preserver and Distructor, inshort one who is DOER (Karta). whereas Paramatma is not DOER, Paramatma is REASON (Karan) behind every Karma. As we know that humans, deities, bagwan's, animals or insects all are different physical manifestations of one Parmatma, the one difference between Bagwan and Humans are that Bagwan's are self-realized and not all the Humans are self-realized. Now as i mentioned Paramatma is Karan (reason) behind every Karma and Bagwan/God is Karta (doer) of every Karma, now to understand this consider an example of Refrigerator, the function of refrigerator is to do cooling, thus here in this case, Cooling is the Karma (deed), Refrigerator is the Karta (Doer) and Electricity is the Karan (Reason). God/Bagwan is also virtual like this creation but Parmatma i.e Super Element is only one who is real or truth or one who is not virtual. Another difference is GOD/Bagwan either in Hinduism or Islam or Christianity is not formless and it has a form, Bagwan or Allah or God can move, talk, give orders, give punishments, manage things, Sits on throne (like Allah does). Bagwan/Allah/God can be seen (b'coz they has a form) , Allah & Christian God can be seen on Judgement day, Allah also give the expression of Wrath (expression can only given by a form) to those who do not accepted Islam & will go to Hell as per Quran. Parmatma is formless because it's infinite in all dimensions, it's omnipresent i.e there is no place that can be imagined where this Element is not present, it's Ghann i.e it's infinitely dense which means it contains infinite mass in it. It is Stationary i.e it does not move at all as there is no empty place where it can shift itself because it's already omnipresent. Paramatma does not involve itself in any objective actions directly (like talk, move, walk, give orders, speak texts for holy books, give punishments etc etc). Bagwan Krishna himself said to Arjuna, "Hey Arjun,this is not my real form, my real form is formless,infinite and beyond time with no beginning and end". Remember when i say Allah and God has form, it means Allah is physically not omnipresent i.e it's appearance has a beginning points and ending points, secondly a form need not to be made of bones, blood, muscles, iron, mud, stone, wax, wood or glass, a form can be made of air, gases, gravity,light, water, electromagnetic waves etc etc. Also it is not necessary for every form to be visible. Remember the only difference between your body and a Gas is that atoms in your body are tightly bonded and atoms in Gas are loosely bonded thus your body has a visible Form and the Gas has Form which is not normally visible by your Eyes due to it's biological limitations. now you understand that physically & behaviourally there is difference between God/Bagwan and Paramatma BUT elementally everything is Paramatma. Remember Parmatma (Super Element) is the supreme ultimate power and is actual reason behind all this creation according to Vedas. Paramatma is 100% Scientific Element which is the reason behind formation of all these sub atomic particles. thus the Allah and the God mentioned in Christianity who live in Heaven have no relevance with Vedic Param Tatva (Parmatma or Super Element). Paramatma realization: Paramatma realization is the realization of the Lord within the Heart, being a partial manifestation of the Supreme Person. Above the Brahman realization is the realization of the presence of the Supreme within the hearts of all living beings. This feature of the Supreme is known as Paramatma, Supersoul or the Lord in the Heart. This is a partial expansion of Bhagavan (the Supreme Person) who can, by His inconceivable potency, be present in innumerable places at one time. The Supreme Personality of Godhead is Sac-cid-ananda-vigraha. The Paramatma or Supersoul realization is the realization of His sat and cit features. There are many verses that speak of the presence of the Lord within the heart: Bhagavad-gita 7.21: I am in everyone's heart as the Supersoul. Bhagavad-gita 13.17: Although the Supersoul appears to be divided among all beings, He is never divided. He is situated as one. Bhagavad-gita 13.23: Yet in this body there is another, a transcendental enjoyer, who is the Lord, the supreme proprietor, who exists as the overseer and permitter, and who is known as the Supersoul. Bhagavad-gita 13:28: “One who sees the Supersoul accompanying the individual soul in all bodies and who understands that neither the soul nor the Supersoul is ever destroyed, actually sees.” Bhagavad-gita 18:61: The Supreme Lord is situated in everyone’s heart, O Arjuna, and is directing the wanderings of all living entities, who are seated as on a machine, made of the material energy. Bhagavad-gita 15:15: I am seated in everyone’s heart, and from Me come remembrance, knowledge, and forgetfulness…. Bhagavan realization: Bhagavan realization is the realization of the Supreme Person Himself. Bhagavan Sri Krishna, the Supreme Person, is the source of both the impersonal Brahman and the Supersoul within the heart. The personality of Godhead is perfect and complete. Chaitanya Charitamrta Ādi 2.5: What the Upaniṣads describe as the impersonal Brahman is but the effulgence of His body, and the Lord known as the Supersoul is but His localized plenary portion. This means that one who is Bhagavan-realised automatically knows Brahman and Paramatma. One who experiences Bhagavan realization knows the Supreme Person in His most intimate, perfect and complete feature. One not only knows Him but is absorbed in loving pastimes with Him. Realization of the personality of Godhead is the realization of all the transcendental features-sat,cit and ananda, bliss.
This is true. There is a difference between Paramata and God/Bhagavan. Paramahamsa Yogananda also states in this regard, "The word 'God' means the manifested, transcendental Being beyond creation, but existing in relation to creation. Spirit existed before God. God is the Creator of the universe, but Spirit is the Creator of God." Brahman is pure consciousness as the Vedas point out. Nirguna Brahman is pure consciousness of an impersonal nature, while God as Saguna Brahman and the jivatman or soul are pure consciousness of a personalised nature, with the Jivatman in bondage due to karma. This bondage, when hacked off through spiritual exercises and meditation, results in the soul or jivatman being purified of karma and regaining its original state as pure consciousness. Here spirit stands for Nirguna Brahman, while God stands for Saguna Brahman. In the yogic philosophy, the Shivalinga as Saguna Brahman is considered the first form to arise when creation occurs, and also the last form before the dissolution of creation. The Kashi Vishwanath temple considers the Shivalinga as representing a huge pillar of light. The Shivalingam is also known as Jyotirlingam or Jyotirbindu, with Jyoti meaning light. Interestingly, as per the Shaivite monotheistic religious sect called the Prajapita Brahmakumaris, the form of the Shiva linga denotes God as a point of light, and who is known as Jehovah, Allah, Ahura Mazda in other religions.
