I would like to know if there is any difference between soul and spirit ? If any member of this hindu forum can answer it will be great help, else i will come up with answer by myself and post it below so that u guys can know the difference. tnx
t all depends on how you are defining them. In Hindu terms there is generally no 'spirit' only soul. So what did you have in mind by 'spirit'?
I would say that both are different in their ownself. Souls are central core of all living being and spirit consists of soul which has ability to reconstruct body by reentering the suitable body and thus getting reborn. in simplest of word. Soul is brahman and spirit is part of brahman. what do you think of it ?
I think there will be differing POVs. In my sampradaya we have soul meaning two things. One is the soul body, the body that reincarnates, and is a manifestation from Siva. the other use of soul, which is less common, is synonymous with the Self, which is the innermost core of the soul body, the part that is identical to God. We don't use the term 'spirit' at all, other that in the sense that one's spirits (mood) can be uplifted. So what I really think is that it's not much of a comparison, because it's bringing in words that are outside of Hinduism (from the west).
Basically spirit is a western terminology but i tried to make it simpler by comparing it with soul. What is POVs by the way ?
The word 'soul' can refer to both the immaterial and material aspects of humanity. Unlike human beings having a spirit, human beings are souls. In its most basic sense, the word Soul means 'life'. The word “spirit” refers only to the immaterial facet of humanity. Human beings have a spirit, but we are not spirits.
