Namaste my friends, As a new Hindu I am still learning. I have read multiple debates about being vegetarian as a Hindu and some still consuming meat. I have always eaten chicken and fish, but not pork and beef. Is there foods I should not eat at all as a Hindu? I haven't read any bans so far in my Bhagavad Gita like with Jews and Muslims there are no pork? Is vegetarian the best thing to do as a Hindu? Please help me my friends. Edit: Also if someone could help with knowing what do you guys who do not have easy access to Ganga water for puja do? Do you keep buying it online or is there alternative?
Hi I have just joined the forum. I hope these video's will help you understand the concept of vegetarianism. Why Hindus don't eat cow being vegan is not about religion One more good piece of information
Namaste, Thank you very much for the reply and videos. I am watching them now. Do you have any information on my second question? I don't want to keep purchasing Ganga Water online for my home puja but I will if I have to.
@Reborn I would not suggest buying it rather you can come to place some day and take back few litres of pure ganga water. Next its not a compulsion to have ganga water at your home. its just suggested, you can use some running and fresh water to do certain things of pooja. just mix it with pure Desi cow milk. it value's equivalent to Ganga water.
Namaste, Thanks again for your reply. You have been very informative to me today and I thank you. I will do that, thanks a lot.
As for diet, I'm a vegetarian, and I know of no Hindu Guru who recommends we eat meat. A friend of mine said to me the other day about who is a vegetarian and who isn't. She ssaid, 'Those who have Gurus are vegetarians." Simple enough, I think. I wasn't always a vegetarian, but decided to try it for a period of one month, (I'm an experiential sort of person) about 40 some years ago. Since than, I've never eaten meat. I just felt astrally so much lighter.
I think that's wise. Then you will probably have a better sense of whether or not its for you. Besides the recipes posted on here, there are a ton of on-line videos for Indian cooking and vegetarianism. A simple search will get you hundreds of hits.
